  2. Tenor-saxophonist Gato Barbieri is in particularly fine form on this release, stretching out on four selections which include "Yesterdays," "Carinoso" and a song simply titled "A John Coltrane Blues." Backed by a six-piece rhythm section that includes Jorge Dalto's keybaords and guitarist Paul Metzke, Barbieri is often exuberant on this spirited and emotional set.8/
  3. The Best of Gato Barbieri: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection Gato's versions of Yesterdays and A John Coltrane Blues are high energy and very cool stylistically. Doesn't hurt that he had Ron Carter playing a solid bass to anchor a very tight band. This CD is NOT a reissue of Gato's original LP called "The Third World 5/5(2).
  4. Dec 01,  · The Third World Revisited, an Album by Gato Barbieri. Released in on RCA (catalog no. RB; CD). Genres: Avant-Garde Jazz.4/5(2).
  5. My quick review of John Coltrane - Blue World Great but not so great. 8 songs. 2 different versions of "Naima" which already appears beautifully on Giant Steps. These other versions are nice to hear though but not really essential. 3 different versions of "Village Blues" which already appears on Coltrane Jazz. Kind of overkill. Sorry/5().

  7. Gato Barbieri: THIRD WORLD REVISITED RCA reissue. Produced by Bob Thiele. Capsule Info: Gato's latest album is a sentimental tribute to the members of his family. While it avoids the worst pitfalls of the QUE PASA, with a somewhat more acoustic feel, it's still a slickly produced affair, owing much more to Gato's A&M period than his.
  8. Aug 16,  · "Now comes word of another new album by the classic John Coltrane Quartet, with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. Blue World will be released on Impulse!/UMe on Sept. 27, and like Both Directions it offers an unexpected view on a pivotal period in the band's evolution.
